However, Blair presents considerable evidence from other observers of their behavior and attitudes. I just wish he didn't seem so invested in detracting from them. Why, for instance, are they both harridans and duplicitous monsters where Roth's friend, Mia Farrow, about whom similar charges have been made, is painted as all good?I’ve read and appreciated authors who’ve done or advocated things I consider heinous. Colette’s description of what Willy made her do to earn money is sickening; there's Celine’s transparent racism; and The Story of O is sexual abasement run rampant.
